For more than thirty years, the Greater North Dallas High School Alumni Association has been quietly doing what alumni associations are supposed to do — sending the next class of Bulldogs to college. Harmony & Light 2026 is proud to help them do it again.

The School
A Dallas landmark that has been graduating Bulldogs for a century.
North Dallas High School has stood at 3120 North Haskell Avenue since 1922, making it one of the oldest standing high school buildings in the city. It has survived long enough to have its own folklore: in 1925, when the district moved to rename the school, a group of mothers physically blocked the workers' ladders until the decision was reversed. The name stayed. That is roughly the temperament of the place.
Its graduates have carried the Bulldog name a long way from Haskell Avenue. Tex Avery, class of 1927, became one of the defining directors of American animation — the man behind Daffy Duck and Droopy. John A. Alonzo, class of 1953, shot Chinatown and Scarface and earned an Academy Award nomination for his cinematography. Earle Cabell served as mayor of Dallas and then in the U.S. House of Representatives. Harold Barefoot Sanders Jr., class of 1942, advised a president and spent decades on the federal bench.
Today about 1,300 students fill those halls. They are mostly students of color, mostly from families of modest means, and a meaningful share of them are dealing with housing instability while trying to finish high school. The talent has not gone anywhere. The margin for error just got a lot thinner.
The Association
Founded in 1991 by a Bulldog who never really left.
Claude Brewer, class of 1947, started the Greater North Dallas High School Alumni Association with a simple premise: graduation should not be the end of the relationship. Classmate Henry Shiels, also class of '47, drew the logo — and the Association still uses it. The first Bulldog News went out in July 1991 and has been arriving quarterly ever since.
The goal was to keep alumni connected and give them a practical way to give back. Three decades on, that has added up to a genuinely long list of work:

Why We Chose Them
Scholarships are the headline. They are not the whole job.
The Association's fund does the obvious thing — it sends Bulldogs to college. It also does the less visible thing: it covers the special needs of current students, including those experiencing homelessness. That is fee money, exam money, a cap and gown, the gap between a student finishing the year and not. It is the kind of help that rarely makes a press release and frequently makes the difference.
That is exactly the work Harmony & Light exists to fund. Our Working Tool sponsors cover the operating costs of the concert and the Dallas Scottish Rite opens its Cathedral to us at no charge, so 100% of every ticket and every silent auction bid goes straight to our beneficiaries — the Dallas Scottish Rite Library and Museum, and the Greater North Dallas High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

The Lewisville Civic Chorale and the Woodrow Wilson High School Variations Show Choir & Chamber Choir perform. 100% of proceeds fund scholarships at the Dallas Scottish Rite Library and Museum and student programs through the Greater North Dallas High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
